Strongid is a broad spectrum general wormer. This wormer contains Pyrantel Embonate which kills and controls Strongyles, Oxyuris, Parascaris and Anoplocephala Perfoliata. Prescribe a double dose for Tapeworms. Strongid-P takes action on worms with Benzimidazole resistance. This treatment is suitable for all Equids, including Foals over 4 weeks of age. Dosage and AdministrationStrongid-P paste is recommended for direct oral administration in Horses, Ponies, Donkeys and Foals, which are over 4 weeks of age. Read more… It is not necessary to stop feed before applying the treatment. It is recommended to apply the treatment as follows:1. Place the locking ring over the appropriate mark on the plunger. 2. Remove the cap from the nozzle. 3. Deposit the paste on the upper surface (dorsum) of the tongue. Introduce the nozzle end of the syringe at the corner of the mouth (labial commissure). Direct the syringe backwards and lower the plunger to deposit the paste onto the tongue. Assuming that the paste is given in this way it is unlikely that any rejection will occur. Raising of the horses head by a hand under the chin sometimes helps in the swallowing process. Strongid-P is for the control and treatment of strongyles including benzimidazole resistant strains (red worm), Oxyuris (seat worm/pin worm) and Parascaris (roundworm). Dosing rate for Strongyles: Strongid-P should be used at a dose rate of 19mg pyrantel embonate/kg of bodyweight. Foals 1-8 months of age should be dosed every 4 weeks. Horses and Donkeys over 8 months of age should be dosed every 6 – 8 weeks, however this should increase to every 4 -6 weeks during summer and autumn. Always dose 3 -4 days before tuning out after in wintering. Suckler maresIt has been shown that reduction of strongyle challenge to the suckling foal at pasture can be achieved by using clean pasture (re-seeded or not grazed the previous year by horses), dosing the mare 3 – 4 days before turning out and then intervals of 2 – 4 weeks until the end of autumn. Preferably mares with foals should go out to ‘clean’ pasture or, if this is not practical, delay turning them out until June. Strongid-P is also for the control and treatment of Anoplocephala perfoliata (Tapeworm). Strongid-P should be prescribed at a dose rate of 38mg pyrantel embonate/kg of bodyweight, twice the rate for Strongyles. Dosing rate for Anoplocephala: The demand for retreatment may vary, but if considered necessary it should be carried out every 6 weeks. To ensure administration of a correct dose, body weight should be determined as accurately as possible.
